The hat has says it all!

My week of looking after my grand nestling was amazing fun and very fulfilling, but I do have to say I’m ready to catch up on a few zzzz’s. You tend to forget that time where sleep is so precious and how little you can survive on. I do understand and all I can say to Mum’s and Dad’s who are craving a nice long sleep is that don’t worry, it will come again and in the meantime the days with your nestling go quickly so enjoy every minute.

My little sweet one has been taught already that the hat needs to go on. What she hasn’t quite worked out yet is that she does not need it on all the time. She had me in stiches quite a few times as she emptied out the change bag all over the floor in search of her hat, which she’d wear for breakfast. She’d attempt to put it on herself and did not seem to mind that it was back to front and she had the big bow over her eyes. But what a clever little girl to know that a hat is essential.

Hard to Imagine

Summer is only really just beginning so it is a bit hard to imagine that winter stock is all ordered. Time just moves so quickly and we always seem to be one ahead of ourselves. The same is with our children. One minute they are so helpless and dependent on you, the next they are asking for the keys of the car.

This last week I have been extremely lucky to have spent the week looking after my grandnestling who is now 16 months old. Every moment was precious even when she was tired and cranky. We got together in the park with friends who had two little nestlings, one 2 and the other 6 months.

With time being precious you need clothes for your nestling that are easy for you to care for, are hardwearing and comfortable and yet look great. Unlike when my children were nestlings there is so much to choose from now.

The dress

As a little girl I had a favorite dress. It was powder blue, sleeveless, buttons down the back, dropped waist and pleated skirt. It was a present from my father. I did not get to wear it very often as Mum deemed it “for best” and I grew out of it too quickly. Even so my mother kept is safe for all these years and now I am a grandmother it is just waiting to be worn again.

My daughter who is now 31 and a very sophisticated dresser (she now reminds me of Audrey Hepburn) was a ‘girly girl’ when she was little, unlike me. In fact there were a number of memorable tantrums when I tried to dress her in shorts and she decided she was having none of that. I clearly remember the walk on the beach in a new pink short set where she was so angry with me and refused to walk. She has often bemoaned the fact that tutu’s weren’t available when she was a little girl. To torment her older brother when his daughter was born her first gift for her niece was a beautiful mauve tutu and headband – which I may add he teamed with a black ACDC onesie.

Welcome from ME

HI and thanks for checking into Nestling's blog. I thought in my first blog I should introduce myself so you know who you are dealing with.

My name is Rebecca and I a Mum but my three babies are 33, 31 and 26. They are all well on their way in the world and all have wonderful partners whom I love as my own. I could not be happier. I also have a beautiful little granddaughter who is 15 months old. I'm Omi which is grandma in German, so that pretty much gives away my heritage. I am single and am currently living in rural NSW.

After 20 years in the one organisation I was made redundant last year which was not such a bad thing as I needed a change. After a good break and much thought I came to the conclusion that I don't want to return to 9-5 work. I was the flexibility to be able to help with my granddaughter as her mum is often flying solo as my son is in the army. I also want to help my mum who is struggling after losing my dad last year.

I have had the great fortune to travel extensively and I have established very strong connections in both Jordan and Khonuu in far north Siberia. No matter where I have been children are the centre of every community. In the future I hope to bring you some lovely things for children and their parents from some of my favourite parts of the world. I also aim to include a handmade section from things that are discovered in some of the wonderful weekend markets here in Australia.

I have lots of plans for the next phase of nestling. I hope you will come along for the ride.

Clothes for baby

Does your baby need some new clothes? We know what its like. Before you have your baby you have a baby shower and get lots of beautiful newborn baby things.
