My blue dress

Dear nestling readers.  I hope you all had the most wonderful Christmas surrounded by family and friends.  I was not able to be with my children and granddaughter but I had wonderful phone call throughout the day.

When I was a little girl my parents did not have a lot of money and anything we had was treasured and well cared for.  On a work trip to the big smoke my father bought me a wonderful blue dress which my mother deemed ‘was for best’ despite me longing to wear it.  It was power blue, sleeveless, dropped waist and pleated skirt.  It was to die for.  It was tucked away, wrapped carefully in tissue paper and only brought on a few special occasions.  Before long I was too big to wear it and it passed into history, or so I thought.  On clearing my parents home when my father died I found the treasured blue dress still wrapped in tissue paper.  My mother had kept it safe for over 50 years.  Unfortunately my daughter did not get to wear it but hopefully a granddaughter will and it will be in perfect ‘vintage’ condition.

My lesson from this is that treasured items need to be worn and appreciated while still lovingly cared for.  Luckily fabrics of today are much more resilient today and your nestlings can wear their wonderful clothes and they still come up looking great.

Well my time looking after my little sweetie pie has come to an end for this time.  In the few weeks that I have been with her she has changed every single day.  She is now taking her first steps and getting a little “attitude”.  Fun for me to watch and a challenge for her parents!

While she is always on my mind today I’m thinking of little boys prompted by seeing the latest release of photos of Prince George.  What about those lovely ruddy cheeks!  While he’s all snug in his knitted vests your little prince needs something pretty cool and comfy at this time of year.  Solution is easy – Hunter Baby.

The good and the bad

Isn’t it just great “fun” when a tummy bug whips through the family? I’m enjoying a few days with my grand nestling and her parents and the little darling picked up a bug at day care and kindly passed it on to all the family, including me! I am sure many of you can relate to that.  Sick, clingy baby and you’re feeling like death warmed up yourself.  Well even though I was sick at least I could happily help out a little bit.

The hat has says it all!

My week of looking after my grand nestling was amazing fun and very fulfilling, but I do have to say I’m ready to catch up on a few zzzz’s.  You tend to forget that time where sleep is so precious and how little you can survive on.  I do understand and all I can say to Mum’s and Dad’s who are craving a nice long sleep is that don’t worry, it will come again and in the meantime the days with your nestling go quickly so enjoy every minute.

My little sweet one has been taught already that the hat needs to go on.  What she hasn’t quite worked out yet is that she does not need it on all the time.  She had me in stiches quite a few times as she emptied out the change bag all over the floor in search of her hat, which she’d wear for breakfast.  She’d attempt to put it on herself and did not seem to mind that it was back to front and she had the big bow over her eyes.  But what a clever little girl to know that a hat is essential.

Hard to Imagine

Summer is only really just beginning so it is a bit hard to imagine that winter stock is all ordered.  Time just moves so quickly and we always seem to be one ahead of ourselves.  The same is with our children.  One minute they are so helpless and dependent on you, the next they are asking for the keys of the car. 

This last week I have been extremely lucky to have spent the week looking after my grandnestling who is now 16 months old.  Every moment was precious even when she was tired and cranky.  We got together in the park with friends who had two little nestlings, one 2 and the other 6 months.
